British Armed Forces Facilities to Host Asylum Seekers in Initiative to End Hotel Accommodation
Numerous individuals seeking protection could be housed in military barracks as the authorities aims to end the reliance of temporary lodging.
Discussions are underway regarding the conversion of two sites - a facility in Scotland and another in the southern England - for accommodation for 900 male individuals.
The PM has ordered Domestic Affairs and Ministry of Defence representatives to speed up efforts to locate proper armed forces locations.
The ruling party has vowed to terminate the operation of temporary hotel accommodations, which have consumed billions of pounds and turned into a central issue for anti-migrant protests.
Under Consideration Military Sites
Migrants may be housed in the Inverness barracks in the Scottish city and East Sussex training site in southeastern England by the final days of the upcoming month.
Industrial sites, short-term shelter and otherwise disused accommodation are also being reviewed for potential use.
Government Assurances
Government sources confirmed that all sites would adhere to wellbeing requirements.
"The government remains extremely concerned at the scale of individuals without proper documentation and temporary hotel accommodations."
"This government will close all refugee hotels. Work are advancing rapidly, with better facilities being brought forward to ease pressure on communities and reduce refugee accommodation expenses."
Existing Shelter Data
Around 32,000 asylum seekers are at this time being housed in hotels, representing a reduction from a high point of over 56 thousand in the previous year.
A current assessment found that billions of government revenue had been "misused" on refugee housing.
Previous Military Site Utilization
Two previous defense facilities - the Wethersfield facility in the eastern county and Napier Barracks in Kent - are already being used to house asylum seekers after being commissioned under the previous leadership.
The government leader remarked on the developments, indicating: "The government is determined to shut down every refugee hotel. Words cannot describe how disappointed and concerned I am that we've been left with a situation as substantial as these developments by the previous administration."
